NBA Betting and Touts

If you are a regular NBA bettor then one of the things you may have considered is whether or not to use a sports betting service, commonly referred to as touts. Although NBA tout services are not as common as those for the NFL and college football, they still do exist. The question becomes whether or not they are useful to the average sports bettor.

One of the first things we want to remember when talking about sports services is that many of them aren't worth giving the time of day to. So many touts will have ads that claim ridiculous percentages and have game of the year selections every week. Those services are the ones to immediately ignore. As I said earlier, it is much more common to see them come out of the woodwork for football since NFL betting is king, but there are still some that will do it in the NBA as well. Since we know that many touts are worthless, the next question becomes whether or not we can find a good one at all. The general answer to this question is no. I am not saying that some services don't win at NBA betting, but I am saying that very few do, and finding the honest and reputable ones is going to be a difficult task.

The next question we need to ask ourselves is do we even need a sports service for our NBA betting? Let's say that we find a service that hits near 60% on their NBA selections. We still have to factor in the cost of buying those selections into our overall bankroll. That 60% looked pretty good when we didn't have to pay anything for selections, but now it doesn't look quite as good if we are shelling out 400 or 500 a month for the service. Now, most services also include college basketball selections with their NBA plays, so we have to decide what to do with those as well. Most people when they get selections from a service are going to play everything they get. But what happens if the NBA selections that are hitting 60% get dragged down by college basketball selections that are hitting below 50%. Suddenly we are losing money on the entire venture. That is one of the problems with following selections from a sports service. Even if the service is good, you can be tempted to pick and choose your games and sports, and that gets your head spinning on days one sport wins and the other one does not.

Betting the NBA can be a profitable venture, and having a sports tout service to follow can be beneficial at times. Having said that, most sports services are long-term losers, and even if you happen to find a good service that doesn't guarantee you anything. Even the best services have off seasons, and occasionally off years. They may sizzle picking the NBA but struggle in college hoops. Or they may have a great NFL year, but struggle in basketball. There is no rhyme or reason to it. That is one of the major problems with using a tout service. If you find a good one, then you are probably better off just blindly following everything they give out. And let me tell you it is not easy. They may go on a losing streak of games that has you wanting to totally quit. The moment you do that though is the moment they get hot. If you are going to use a sports service for any sport, including NBA betting, you are probably better off just playing all of their games. The better idea though is to handicap the games yourself, save the money that the touts cost you, and avoid the aggravation of a sports service entirely.
